Flynn and Kielhmann take victories at sunny Knockburn Loch

Knockburn Loch played host to the third round of the 2026/27 HUPcc Scottish Cyclocross Series.

The sun shone down on Knockburn Loch, with Deeside Thistle putting together a great course with some different sections to previous years. The dry weather made for some very quick racing with many impressive lap times being set throughout the day.

In the female race, Scottish and British champion Anna Flynn held off Handsling Alba teammate Arabella Blackburn to take the win in the Senior race. The pair flew off the line and created an early gap with eventual third place finisher Ishbel Strathdee in pursuit. A final lap mechanical for Blackburn ended her chase of her teammate. Emma Campbell had a strong race, riding herself to victory in the junior race. Lettie McDonald would take the win in the M40F, with Sian Tovey and Corinne Menzies taking the M50F and M60F wins respectively.

In the Open senior race, Patrick Kielhmann and Sam Chisholm shot off the start line creating an early gap. Kielhmann would pull away from Chisholm to take the win with a very strong ride, with Lewis Martin returning to the SCX racing scene with a strong performance taking third place. Lewis McAusland would get the better of Innes Long in the junior race, and Richard McDonald took the win in the M40.

In the youth U14 and U16 races there was some great racing in each category. The U14s saw Falkirk Junior Bike Club riders Ellis McAusland and Theia McKay take the wins in the open and female races.

The U16 races saw a close battle between Angus Dowens of West Lothian Clarion and Alexander Mullen of Falkirk Junior Bike Club in the open race. Their battle would go down to the last lap with Dowens getting the better of Mullen. In the female U16 race Emma Nicholson took an early lead and was odds on to take the win. Unfortunately a last lap mechanical forced Nicholson to run the last half lap dropping her into second place, with Emie Smith riding past to take the victory.

The opening race of the day saw the Open M50 and M60 races, in which Dougie Cameron took an early lead with a strong ride and wasn’t seen again by the chasers, moving up a step on the podium after last rounds second place. Lee Campbell and Alan Horsburgh took second and third respectively. Kenny Riddle made it two from two in the 2026/27 Series in the M60 with another impressive performance. Neil Raitt and Norman Blissett rounded out the M60 podium.
