The sand dunes of Irvine are calling, as with less than six months to go until the start of the 2024/25 cyclocross season, the SCX Series has been unveiled.

After listening to feedback from the cyclocross community, the Scottish Cyclocross Association (SCX) present an exciting series calendar, a mix of old and new venues, with a good geographical and date spread.

As was the case in 2023, Kinneil CX will get the season underway, the fast woodland venue just outside Falkirk well known to produce some close fought racing. Scheduled for Sunday 22nd September, there are a number of regional racing opportunities in the pipeline prior to that so riders are ready for the series kick-off.

Next up comes Muir of Ord, the most northerly of our 2024 rounds, which last featured in 2022. Last time out the course was quick, but what will Sunday 13th October bring? The other October round is Brechin, slated for Sunday 20th – let’s hope we have a bit less rain this year, although the mudlarks may have other thoughts.

Once again the SCX Series, the pinnacle of ‘cross racing in Scotland, is laid out to support those travelling to compete at the British CX Trophies, encouraging regional and grassroots racing on these weekends, ensuring there are racing opportunities for everyone.

Sticking with the East coast, round four of the series sees the ever-popular Camperdown Country Park included once again on Sunday 3rd November – host to the Scottish Championships in 2022 and 2023, we should all know what to expect by now.

After a couple of weekends off, the penultimate round of the six race series for 2024 sees a move west to Chatelherault Country Park. An established venue, but becoming part of the series for the first time. We’re sure many will be familiar with the huge bank directly below the house!

The series finale will also incorporate the 2024 Scottish National Cyclocross Championships, and is set to be the biggest weekend on the Scottish Cyclocross calendar this season. We all know the quality that Irvine offers as a CX venue, having hosted British Trophies and the like on its sand dunes in the past, and we can’t wait to see what the course serves up this time round. Mark Sunday 1st December firmly in your diaries (and if the rumours are true - pencil in Saturday 30th November too!).

A massive thank you goes to those organisers who have put their hands in the air to host series races in 2024: Falkirk Junior Bike Club, Gordon Bathgate, Clive Sharman and Neil Rait, Keith Stocker and Martin Harris, Royal Albert/Clydesdale Colts, and finally Hannah Kemlo and Alan Anderson at Irvine.

Round 1 – Kinneil CX – Sunday 22nd Sept
Round 2 – Muir of Ord – Sunday 13th Oct
Round 3 – Brechin CX – Sunday 20th Oct
Round 4 – Camperdown – Sunday 3rd Nov
Round 5 – Chatelherault – Saturday 23rd Nov
Round 6 – Irvine – Sunday 1st Dec (also Scottish Champs)

Best 5 results to count for Series Ranking. Cross is coming!
